In recent years, it’s been hard to ignore the resurgence of one of heavy metal’s often-criticized sub-genres.

  • JNCOs are popular again (Please explain this one, lol.)
  • Sick New World is one of the most popular festivals of the year.
  • Mudvayne and SOAD (sort of) have reunited.
  • Korn, Linkin Park, and others have had successful anniversary releases of iconic albums.
  • Sharon Osborne has mentioned the possibility of Ozzfest returning as a touring festival.
  • Bands like Code Orange, Sylar, Cane Hill, and Bad Omens, among others, often find themselves compared more to nu-metal than their metalcore counterparts.

Even on Google Trends, you can see that in the last 5 years there’s been a gradual increase in interest.
