The headline may seem click baity, but it’s sadly the reality of how Alabama’s governor responds to single parents reaching out to discuss the struggles facing the “middle class” of Alabama. In a gut-wrenching TikTok video, user @yesitsemmaleeann shares her heart-wrenching experience of how Governor Kay Ivey reacted to parents expressing concerns about the soaring costs of rent, groceries, and utilities. The video is a must-watch, and as a parent myself, I’m appalled by the response of the person we’ve entrusted to lead our state.

It’s hard to believe, but Governor Ivey not only suggested that this woman put her child up for adoption, but also threatened to call the Department of Human Resources (DHR) on her for reaching out. While some have defended Governor Ivey, claiming that she was simply offering available options, even they acknowledge that her approach could have been far more compassionate.
